Daniel Munie scored twice, with Preston Judd adding another, to lead the San Jose Earthquakes to a 3-0 win over Sporting Kansas City in the season opener. Munie and Judd scored within four minutes of each other before halftime, with Munie converting a tap-in and Judd finishing from the center of the box in stoppage time.
San Jose dominated the match, outshooting Sporting KC 18-7 and winning 15 corner kicks. Sporting KC, who entered the new season with a major overhaul, struggled defensively in the loss.
