US women's hockey star Hilary Knight engaged to speedskater Brittany Bowe

U.S. hockey star Hilary Knight got engaged to her girlfriend, American speedskater Brittany Bowe, and shared the news a day before the U.S. women’s hockey team is set to compete in the gold medal game.

Knight, 36, proposed to Bowe, 37, during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. She shared an Instagram video of herself dropping to one knee with a ring in her hand, then later picking up Bowe in celebration.

“Olympics brought us together. This one made us forever,” Knight captioned the post on Wednesday.

Knight and Bowe first met at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, where Knight won her first gold medal in a dramatic final game against Canada. Bowe also won a medal that year, a bronze in the team pursuit.

The couple began dating four years later at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, which featured limited outside interaction due to COVID concerns. Knight won a silver medal, while Bowe earned another bronze.

“That’s the first time we really did have time to connect and get to know one another,” Bowe told People magazine last month. “Hilary would ask, like, ‘Oh, do you want to go for a walk after dinner?’ And that was our first date, going to walk around the Olympic Village masked because everyone was so fearful of getting COVID.”

Bowe has already completed her 2026 Olympics, which she has said will be her last. Knight and her U.S. teammates will face Canada in Thursday’s gold medal match, the latest chapter in a rivalry that has defined international women’s hockey for decades.
