Warrenton Girls Capture State Basketball Title

The Warrenton 8th grade girls basketball team clinched the state championship title on March 1 with a 60-52 victory over Madras/Warm Springs after battling back from a nine-point halftime deficit.

The Warrenton 8th grade girls basketball team emerged victorious at the middle school state tournament in Salem on Sunday, defeating Madras/Warm Springs 60-52 in the championship game. Despite being down by nine at halftime, the team rallied to secure the title.

Warrenton finished the tournament with a 5-1 record, having defeated Yamhill-Carlton 52-40, Crescent Valley 45-17, Banks 40-28, and Seaside 48-20, with their only loss coming against Madras in a 66-54 setback on Saturday. The championship team consists of six 8th graders and four 7th graders, with six of the players having competed together for five years.
