Italian golfer Andrea Pavan was discharged from a South African hospital after falling three stories in an elevator shaft. He will stay for five weeks of rehab before heading home.

Andrea Pavan, 36, was discharged from a South African hospital after a freak accident that sent him falling three stories in an elevator shaft during the DP World Tour’s Investec South African Open. He underwent shoulder and back surgeries and has fractures to several vertebrae.

Pavan will remain in South Africa for about five weeks of rehabilitation before traveling back to the U.S. He thanked supporters and noted that walking again feels like a miracle. A GoFundMe raised over $81,000 for his recovery.
