The Detroit Lions traded running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans for a draft pick on March 2, freeing about $3.5 million in cap space.

The Lions sent David Montgomery to the Texans in exchange for a draft pick, a move that will free roughly $3.5 million in salary‑cap room for the Detroit franchise.

Montgomery, who turned 29 this June, had a reduced role in 2023 after the emergence of Jahmyr Gibbs, and the trade follows Lions GM Brad Holmes’ comments about moving forward.
