Bettman visits Calgary for World Cup venue

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is visiting Calgary on Monday to inspect Scotia Place, a potential venue for the 2028 World Cup of Hockey.

The visit includes a tour of the arena's construction site and meetings with ownership, as Calgary remains on the short list to host the best-on-best hockey tournament. Deputy commissioner Bill Daly is accompanying Bettman.

The $1.2 billion venue, slated to open in fall 2027, would be ready to host the February 2028 World Cup. The NHL and NHLPA have narrowed 25 applicants to a few North American candidates, with venue announcements expected in two weeks.
