Makybe Diva, the British‑born Australian champion who captured the Melbourne Cup in 2003, 2004 and 2005, died at 26 after a brief bout of colic at her retirement stable near Geelong. Owner Tony Santic said the mare, who earned $10 million in prize money, was more than a racehorse – she was family.
Jockey Glen Boss, who rode her to all three victories, said she left a huge footprint in Australian racing history. The Victoria Racing Club posted that “Australia farewells a true legend.”
