Football rulemakers review VAR, plan 'Vinicius Law'

Football's Ifab has announced a two-year review of VAR technology while preparing new rules for corner kicks and potential 'Vinicius Law' before the World Cup finals.

Football's lawmaking authority, the Ifab, is conducting a two-year review of the video assistant referee system to ensure it's being used effectively. The announcement came alongside enhancements to the rulebook before the World Cup, including expanding VAR to determine corner kicks.

Another proposal could fast-track punishments for players obscuring their mouths at this summer's tournament, following alleged racist abuse of Vinícius Júnior by Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni. New rules will be implemented before the World Cup finals.
