Fitzgerald Proposes College Football Calendar Overhaul

New Michigan State head coach Pat Fitzgerald outlined sweeping changes to the college football calendar during a recent podcast with ESPN analyst David Pollack.

Fitzgerald proposed moving up the start of the season and implementing home playoff games similar to the NFL, FCS, and D2 levels. He also suggested moving the national championship game to January 1st and eliminating conference championship games altogether.

The coach recommended that bowl games be played a week after the regular season concludes, creating a more compact postseason. These ideas reflect growing debate within college football about restructuring the traditional calendar format.
