Kentucky Football became the first SEC program to officially jump into the recruitment of Braylon Key, a 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback from Batesville (Miss.) South Panola, extending an offer that the emerging 2027 prospect calls a “true blessing.”

Though Key is not yet ranked, his stock has been climbing rapidly throughout the winter, with college coaches increasingly taking notice of his athleticism, length, and natural defensive instincts. Kentucky is now the first SEC school to formally give an offer, which is a milestone that the junior won’t forget anytime soon.

“It was truly a blessing getting that first SEC offer,” Key told A Sea of Blue. “I had a feeling I was going to eventually get one, but I didn’t expect Kentucky to be the first.”

Defensive backs coach James Gibson, who works specifically as the Stars coach in Kentucky’s secondary, delivered the news. Key says the two have formed a strong bond early in the process.

“Me and Coach Gibson are building a great relationship. I’m looking forward to getting to know the rest of the coaching staff,” Key said.

The Mississippi native has not locked in any visits yet, but he plans to see Memphis, Ole Miss, Tulane, Mississippi State, and Kentucky this spring.

Key says the Wildcats have already made an impression.

“I can most definitely see myself in the blue and white,” he said.

Key currently expects to commit in late July or August, though that timeline could shift as more schools enter the mix. Regardless, he’s eager to see what Kentucky has to offer.

“I’m ready to get down to Kentucky to see how it is,” he added. “Excited for the experience.”
