Reported valuation of Patriots DT Christian Barmore surprisingly low

Christian Barmore's value might be viewed highly within the New England Patriots' organization, but that doesn't appear to be the case around the league, according to Boston Sports Journal's Mike Giardi.

Some have wondered if the Patriots should consider moving on from the former second-round draft pick out of Alabama. There have been legal issues off the field, combined with him missing time due to blood clot issues. It's important to note that he appeared in every game for the team in 2025.

However, Barmore's performance last season hasn't increased his market value. He recorded 29 tackles and two sacks in 2025. When asking about Barmore's trade value, Giardi said that he was told a sixth-round pick in exchange for Barmore and a seventh-round pick.

“His value around the league...is not high," Giardi said, via Patriots on CLNS. "And maybe it is strictly the off-field stuff, or maybe it's the off-field stuff combined with the blood clots that cost him most of two years ago. And the fact that he was being managed with that all year long—and with a knee that he had that goes back to college.

"...Talking to people around the league, getting the sense, like you'd get a Day 3 pick for him. But I didn't even hear a fifth-round. I heard sixth round. I heard, 'You give us a seventh, we'll give you a sixth.' ...If you're not going to get the value that you want for the player, you’re almost just better off saying, screw it, let’s run it back. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the light finally goes on.”

The Patriots could lose Khyiris Tonga in free agency, so it might make more sense to keep the rest of their defensive front intact for the 2026 season.

When healthy, Barmore and Milton Williams have been one of the best defensive tackle duos in the NFL. That might not be something the Patriots want to ruin for a late-round draft pick, unless the legal trouble forces their hand.
