19-year-old forward is coming to replace Florian Wirtz

Liverpool paid a fee that could reach £116m for Florian Wirtz last summer - representing what was then a British-record sum.

But the 22-year-old has been inconsistent for the Premier League champions during his first season at Anfield.

The Germany international has scored four goals and made three assists in 25 Premier League games - but is currently on the sidelines due to injury.

And that injury could well open the door to a 19-year-old academy prospect who cannot stop scoring at present.

The Northern Ireland youth made his first-team debut for Arne Slot back in October when he featured in an EFL Cup defeat against Crystal Palace.

Wirtz's place could go to Morrison

But owing to his incredible form at Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League level the club’s under-21 captain has been predicted to take a starring role in the first team.

Wirtz is expected to be out not only for the game against Wolves on Tuesday but also the FA Cup match against the same opposition on Friday night at Molineux.

Liverpool’s issues in attack - where they have been without Wirtz and Alexander Isak - could open the door for Morrison to step in.

“With Liverpool's ongoing injury crisis now including uncertainty over Florian Wirtz's back injury, Morrison may feature more in the coming weeks,” a report reads on BBC Sport.

Kieran Morrison: Situation summary

Kieran Morrison is a 19-year-old Northern Ireland youth international enjoying a breakout season with Liverpool U21s, where he has hit a prolific scoring run in Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League.

Recently appointed captain, he has responded with 10 goals in his last seven PL2 games, drawing praise for his improved maturity and leadership.

Primarily a right‑sided attacker who likes to cut in on his left but also capable of operating in midfield, he made his senior Liverpool debut in the Carabao Cup and has been training regularly with Arne Slot’s first team, making several matchday squads.

Liverpool turned down January loan interest from Schalke and other clubs, preferring to keep him in-house as cover amid an injury‑hit season and assess him more closely over the remainder of 2025‑26.

With ongoing issues in the senior forward line, local coverage increasingly frames Morrison as a realistic candidate for further first‑team minutes before the season ends.
