The San Francisco 49ers will need to replace Brian Fleury, who will now call plays for the Seattle Seahawks. Fleury had served as the tight end coach and run game coordinator for the Niners.

According to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows, the Niners have a name in mind to replace Fleury, and it would be an in-house promotion:

According to league sources, the 49ers are eying assistant offensive line coach Cameron Clemmons to replace Brian Fleury as the team’s tight end coach. Clemmons spent the last two seasons working under offensive line coach Chris Foerster, who helps draw up the team’s running plays.

Clemmons was with the Las Vegas Raiders as an assistant offensive line coach from 2021 through 2023, before being an offensive quality control coach in 2020. He worked at the collegiate level from 2016 through 2019 as a graduate assistant and offensive quality control analyst at the University of Tennessee.

According to the 49ers team website, Clemmons worked with the Raiders’ tight ends group as a quality control coach in 2020. That year, Darren Waller had career highs in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. This is not a move the team makes unless they are confident in his working relationship with George Kittle, as well as in Clemmons’ ideas in the running game and in the type of player he believes is needed in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

It seems like each offseason, there’s a discussion about the type of tight end the Niners need alongside Kittle. Perhaps Clemmons will bring a unique perspective to the table this offseason. We will find out if that ends up being the case.
