A familiar foe awaits Manchester City in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

It has now become an annual tradition that Manchester City face Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. The two teams have met in the knockout stages five times in the past seven seasons. A sixth meeting in seven seasons between the two teams awaits in the Round of 16 of this season’s UEFA Champions League. The draw was confirmed earlier today.

Manchester City will face Real Madrid in the Round of 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side will take on Real Madrid in the Round of 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League. The first leg of the tie will take place on Wednesday, March 11 at the Bernabeu. The second leg will be played at the Etihad Stadium on March 17. It is the sixth meeting in the knockout stages of the Champions League between the two teams with Pep Guardiola’s side winning two of the ties and Real Madrid have won three of those ties.

The two teams met in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League earlier this season. Manchester City beat Real Madrid 2-1 at the Bernabeu as goals from Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland were enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to pick up an important victory. City didn’t have it all their own way in that match. Rodrygo gave Real Madrid an early lead at the Bernabeu, but City responded to pick up an important win in Madrid. Playing at the Bernabeu will hold no fears for Pep Guardiola’s side. The fact that the second leg is at the Etihad is an advantage for City.

City know the path that awaits them in the Champions League.

Should Manchester City overcome Real Madrid, they’ll face either Bayern Munich or Atalanta in the quarter-final stage of the Champions League. If Pep Guardiola’s side progress to the semi-final stage, they face one of Chelsea, Galatasaray, Liverpool or PSG. Manchester City’s road ahead in the Champions League is now ahead of them. The hope is that they can overcome a familiar foe in Real Madrid in the Round of 16 stage.
