Chelsea have once again been drawn away in the FA Cup this season, and Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds seems more than happy about it.
Liam Rosenior’s side, who played Hull away in the fourth round on Friday night, has had to hit the road for every tie so far in both the League Cup and FA Cup.
Wrexham’s journey up the English football ladder has been well documented through the success of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ on Disney+, and they’re now eyeing a place in the Premier League.
Ryan Reynolds reacts to Wrexham’s draw with Chelsea in the FA Cup
Reynolds, who co-owns the club with Rob McElhenney, shared his reaction to the draw on social media.
The actor took to Twitter to share his thoughts and couldn’t hide his excitement about welcoming Chelsea to the Racecourse Ground.
Chelsea fans might be frustrated by another away fixture, but there’s plenty of reason for optimism about reaching another quarter-final.
The fifth-round match is scheduled between Friday 6 and Sunday 9 March, and several top sides will be up against each other that same weekend.
Rosenior given another chance to rotate
Liam Rosenior took the opportunity against lower-league opposition on Friday to rest players like Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro, while also bringing Enzo Fernandez and Wesley Fofana back into the lineup.
With Chelsea’s schedule set to get busier as they return to Champions League action, Rosenior would welcome another chance to give his key players a break.
Another cup game against a Championship side could be ideal for that. Moises Caicedo, in particular, has looked increasingly fatigued over recent weeks.
Even with the option to rotate, it’s worth noting that Chelsea are now only three wins away from lifting the FA Cup for the first time since 2018.
