Kevin Gausman, the 35-year-old right-hander acquired from Toronto, will make his Cubs debut Friday night against the Royals. He was added to Chicago's active roster before Wednesday's series finale against the Dodgers, with left-hander Antoine Kelly optioned to Triple-A Iowa to make room.
Gausman is 5-10 with a 4.38 ERA in 23 starts this season but brings a solid track record, having pitched at least 174 2/3 innings and made at least 31 starts in each of the previous five years. The Cubs also added reliever Ryan Zeferjahn and left-hander Braxton Garrett before the trade deadline, creating intriguing pitching decisions for manager Craig Counsell. tr-sport.click
