The Welsh Football Association has become the first FIFA member to withdraw its support for President Gianni Infantino's re-election, citing governance failures.

The Welsh Football Association announced on August 3 that it is withdrawing its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino in his bid for re-election in March 2027. The association cited "failures in terms of good governance, processes, and leadership" as reasons for withdrawing support. afnews.co.za

"Mr. Infantino has lost the confidence of the Welsh Football Association to remain at the helm of world football," the association stated in its official announcement. "Not putting the interest of football first is a failure we cannot accept." Infantino is currently the only declared candidate for the FIFA presidency position.
