NCAA to Appeal 5th Season Eligibility Injunction

U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney granted a class-wide injunction allowing all high school class of 2022 athletes a fifth season of college eligibility, which the NCAA plans to appeal.

The ruling applies to all Division I players who began college in the 2022-23 season and temporarily opens the transfer portal from August 3-10. Judge Sweeney rejected the NCAA's concerns about roster chaos, stating players would suffer irreparable harm without the injunction.

NCAA President Charlie Baker referenced a congressional bill designed to provide the NCAA antitrust protection on eligibility issues. This follows a Tennessee court decision granting 19 basketball players a fifth season. truewildgame.com
