Canes blank Flyers in Game 1, take series lead

Logan Stankoven scored twice and Frederik Andersen made 19 saves for his second playoff shutout as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 3-0 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Stankoven opened the scoring just 91 seconds into the game and added another goal late in the second period. Jackson Blake also scored for the Hurricanes, who have yet to trail in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs. Stankoven, 23, became the youngest player in NHL history to score in five consecutive playoff games to start a career.

Frederik Andersen recorded his seventh career playoff shutout, stopping 19 shots. Dan Vladar made 20 saves for the Flyers, who will attempt to regroup when the series resumes Monday in Raleigh. Carolina, who swept Ottawa in the first round, continues to send messages to opponents as the physical play intensified later in the game. sweetbonanza.qpon
