Masters Chairman Urges Stronger Ball‑Distance Controls

Fred Ridley, chairman of the Masters, warned that golf balls are traveling too far and urged governing bodies to tighten distance limits before 2030.

During his State of the Masters address, Ridley highlighted rising driving distances and urged the USGA and R&A to adopt stricter limits. He cited players hitting over 300 yards in practice and noted Augusta’s course has already been lengthened by 440 yards since 2002. Ridley emphasized that protecting Augusta is not the sole reason for reform and that many clubs lack the resources to extend their courses.
