Brewers Manager Delivers Pocket Turtle After Pancake Ban

In August, Brewers manager Pat Murphy was caught taking a pancake from the pocket of his hoodie during a dugout interview, a moment that went viral and led the club to sell “Murph’s Pocket Pancakes” at home games. The incident also sparked the nickname “rally tortoise” for the team’s later mascot.

When the Brewers’ rain‑shortened game against the Royals was called off on Apple TV, Murphy was told no pocket pancakes were permitted. He instead handed reporter Tricia Whitaker a sulcata tortoise he’d named Bobby Jr., after Royals star Bobby Witt Jr. The reptile, weighing up to 100 lb and living up to 70 years, will remain in Kansas City as airlines prohibit reptiles on flights, and the club plans to find it a new home.
