Zundell Makes WV History with Sub-4 Mile

Syracuse sophomore Drew Zundell became only the third runner from West Virginia to ever break the four-minute mile barrier, recording a time of 3:59.04 at a Boston meet.

Syracuse runner Drew Zundell etched his name in West Virginia running history by becoming just the third native of the state to break the four-minute mile barrier. The former University High School state champion crossed the finish line in 3:59.04 at a Boston meet, with former Syracuse coach Chris Fox—one of the other two WV sub-four runners—on hand to witness the achievement.

Zundell described the moment as a "full-circle" achievement, noting he had been targeting the sub-four mark since running 4:03 earlier this season. With two more seasons at Syracuse, the sophomore aims to continue building on this historic accomplishment.
