Giants Relegate Schoen to Scouting Under Harbaugh

New York Giants have reduced GM Joe Schoen's role to overseeing scouting, with Dawn Aponte now in charge of football operations reporting directly to head coach John Harbaugh.

The Giants have significantly reorganized their football operations, shifting GM Joe Schoen to focus solely on the scouting department. Dawn Aponte now oversees all football operations including strategic planning, analytics, salary cap management, and contract negotiations, reporting directly to Harbaugh.

Harbaugh, who reports directly to ownership and has final say in personnel, described working well with Schoen on "menial tasks" while valuing his input on player evaluations. Despite having ultimate authority, the head coach still relies on Schoen's expertise even as the GM's influence has been reduced in the new head coach-centric structure.
