49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has spoken to reporters for the first time since his July 14 automobile accident, claiming he was at fault. Shanahan explained that he briefly took his eyes off the road to find his phone which had fallen between the seats, causing him to cross the center line and collide with another vehicle. afnews.co.za
The coach disputed the California Highway Patrol's report which placed fault on the other driver, citing a clerical error in the CHP database. However, Grant Cohn of SI.com reported that public records showed the accident was deemed the other driver's fault, and that Shanahan was holding and using his cell phone at the time of the collision.
