During the league’s annual meeting, Commissioner Roger Goodell reaffirmed that the Rooney Rule will remain in place. He said the rule has evolved over time and will continue to adapt as circumstances warrant, but its core purpose—to promote diversity in hiring—will not change.
Goodell also noted that the rule is not a hiring mandate but a tool used across industries to identify diverse candidates. He pledged to engage with stakeholders, including Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, to discuss policy updates while upholding the NFL’s commitment to diversity.
