Blue Jays Place Kirk on IL, Recall Valenzuela

The Toronto Blue Jays placed two‑time All‑Star catcher Alejandro Kirk on the 10‑day injured list after a dislocated and fractured thumb, and recalled Brandon Valenzuela from Triple‑A Buffalo.

Kirk was injured in the 10th inning of a 5‑4 loss to the Chicago White Sox when a foul ball struck his glove, dislocating and fracturing his left thumb. He left the game immediately and was taken for X‑rays, leading the Blue Jays to place him on the 10‑day injured list.

The club recalled catcher Brandon Valenzuela from Triple‑A Buffalo to fill the roster spot. In addition, the Jays assigned veteran left‑hander Patrick Corbin to Single‑A Dunedin after signing him to a one‑year contract.
