IND vs ENG: Atrocious Says Shreyas After India’s Biggest T20I Defeat

India captain Shreyas Iyer didn’t mince his words after his team’s horrendous 125-run defeat in the third T20I at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Iyer described his team’s performance as atrocious and said he could not have used a better word to express his emotions in the aftermath of the loss.

India were hammered by the hosts in what proved to be the series decider in Nottingham. After opting to bowl first, India could only restrict England to 201 in their 20 overs. With the bat, however, the Men in Blue faltered once again, being bowled out for just 76. It was India’s biggest defeat by runs in T20Is.

“I think it was atrocious,” Shreyas said during the post-match presentation ceremony. “I couldn’t use a better word, honestly. Losing by such a big margin is definitely not acceptable. First things first, I feel that we need to accept this loss and completely go back to the drawing board and see what we did wrong. Looking at the wicket, I don’t think it was a 200 wicket, to begin with. But other than that, the way we batted, we lost five wickets in the powerplay. I think that itself created the momentum, and I definitely feel that we lost the game there. So, we’ve got to go back to the drawing board.”

After another defeat on the UK tour, India can now, at best, level the five-match series by winning the remaining two T20Is. Four defeats and one no result make this India’s longest winless sequence in T20Is. Shreyas is yet to win a match as T20I captain, having begun his tenure on a disappointing note.
