Choudhary overcame personal tragedy to turn up for his team in a big game and delivered a disciplined spell. His opening spell, along with Akeal Hosein’s, helped in the team’s defence. CSK players donned black armbands as a mark of respect following the death of their team-mate Mukesh Choudhary’s mother, Prema Devi, who had reportedly been undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness at Mumbai’s Tata Hospital for nearly a year.

Batting first, the Super Kings posted a total of 207 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson delivered an unbeaten knock of 101 runs off just 54 deliveries, laced with 10 boundaries and six maximums.
