CDM : Ramy Bensebaîni, le doute s’installe
Sans être confirmée officiellement par la Fédération algérienne de football, la nouvelle est tombée : le défenseur Rami Bensebaïni sera forfait face à l’Argentine.
Absent face aux Pays-Bas (1 – 0), le 3 juin dernier à Rotterdam puis contre la Bolivie (4 – 0), avant-hier à Kansas City, le défenseur du Borussia Dortmund, Rami Bensebaïni est déclaré forfait pour le premier match face à l’Argentine, mercredi prochain. fish-roadgame.online
Revenant progressivement aux entraînements après trois semaines de convalescence, Bensebaïni aurait contracté une blessure à la cheville droite, mardi lors de la première séance au complexe Rock Chalk Park, situé à Lawrence, dans la région de Kansas City.
Déjà, lors des deux confrontations amicales de préparation face aux Oranjes et à la Bolivie, le sélectionneur national Vladimir Petkovic a dû faire sans son défenseur polyvalent et expérimenté, en alignant les Zinedine Belaïd, Achraf Abada et Mohamed Amine Tougaï.
Le staff médical est aux petits soins et suit de plus près le cas de l’ancien du Paradou AC, sans que l’on sache avec précision l’évolution de son état de santé.
Lors de la première conférence de presse du coach national, ce dernier devra se prononcer sur ce coup dur qui frappe d’entrée la sélection, tout en cherchant d’autres solutions en attendant de le récupérer lors des deux prochains matchs, contre la Jordanie et l’Autriche.
D’ailleurs, Bensebaïni a mis une attelle, le privant de mettre le pied à terre pour une durée méconnue, alors que le match contre l’Argentine est dans cinq jours et impose des joueurs prêts à plus de 100% compte-tenu de l’intensité et du niveau d’un tel rendez-vous.

Coupe du monde 2026 : l’Afrique du Sud égale un triste record du Cameroun
Les Bafana Bafana ont vécu une soirée compliquée lors du match d’ouverture de la Coupe du monde 2026. Battue 2-0 par le Mexique à l’Estadio Azteca, l’Afrique du Sud a terminé la rencontre à neuf joueurs après deux expulsions, rejoignant ainsi un record peu enviable détenu jusque-là par le Cameroun.
Une ouverture de Mondial cauchemardesque
Opposée au pays hôte, l’Afrique du Sud a longtemps subi la domination mexicaine avant de voir sa situation se compliquer davantage en seconde période. Siphophelo Sithole a été expulsé à la 49e minute, avant que Themba Zwane ne soit également exclu à la 84e minute.
Réduits à neuf contre onze pendant les dernières minutes de la rencontre, les Sud-Africains n’ont jamais été en mesure de renverser la situation et se sont inclinés logiquement 2-0 pour leur entrée dans la compétition.
Le Cameroun comme précédent
Avant cette rencontre, la dernière sélection à avoir terminé un match d’ouverture de Coupe du monde à neuf joueurs était le Cameroun lors du Mondial 1990 en Italie. Les Lions Indomptables avaient alors créé l’exploit en battant l’Argentine de Diego Maradona (1-0), malgré les expulsions d’André Kana-Biyik et de Benjamin Massing.
Trente-six ans plus tard, l’Afrique du Sud rejoint donc le Cameroun dans cette statistique particulière, mais sans connaître le même destin glorieux.
Une soirée à oublier pour l’Afrique du Sud
Si le Cameroun avait transformé cette infériorité numérique en l’un des plus grands exploits de l’histoire de la Coupe du monde, l’Afrique du Sud repart de Mexico avec un constat bien différent : une défaite, deux expulsions et déjà une obligation de réagir lors de son prochain match.

Charlet Hat-Trick Sinks Spirited South Africa in Thrilling FIH Nations Cup Opener
CAPE TOWN — South Africa and France delivered a blockbuster opening to the FIH Men’s Hockey Nations Cup at a buzzing Hartleyvale Stadium on Thursday evening, but it was the ruthless efficiency of the higher-ranked Europeans that ultimately secured a 4-2 victory.
In front of a passionate home crowd, the South Africans matched the tournament favourites for long periods. They showcased fearless attacking transitions and remarkable resilience, but a devastating first-quarter ankle injury to talismanic midfielder Mustaphaa Cassiem and a second-half penalty-corner masterclass from French powerhouse Victor Charlet proved the difference.
A Thrilling First Half and Debutant Delight
The evening began with a sense of occasion, marking the senior international debuts of Kenton Melville and Jared Cass for the hosts. France, however, were quick to signal their intent, winning an early penalty corner that South Africa successfully referred. Despite brilliant early saves by South African goalkeeper Cullin de Jager, France drew first blood through a clinical finish from Corentin Sellier.

Cassiem's Injury and the French Resurgence
Yet, the loss of Mustaphaa Cassiem in the first quarter cast a long shadow over the hosts’ midfield. Stripped of his trademark vision, creativity, and composure, South Africa found themselves absorbing immense pressure as France raised the intensity after the interval.
De Jager stood like a wall in the South African goal, producing a string of spectacular saves, including a crucial double save from a penalty corner. However, the relentless French pressure eventually fractured the home defence. France forced four penalty corners in the second half, providing the perfect platform for Victor Charlet to take over the game.
Charlet levelled the match at 2-2 with a trademark drag-flick. Following an agonizingly close counter-attack miss by South Africa and an early green card in the final quarter that reduced the hosts to ten men, Charlet struck again via a clever penalty corner variation. With just seven minutes remaining on the clock, Charlet sealed his hat-trick, and the match, by converting a late penalty stroke.
Captain's Reaction and the Road Ahead
Despite the heartbreak, South African captain Dayaan Cassiem found plenty of silver linings in his side’s courageous performance.
“In the first two quarters we showed what we are made of, and I think the quicker we play the ball forward, the better we will be,” Cassiem reflected. “It’s quite difficult losing a player of Mustaphaa’s ability and vision in the midfield, but now the other guys will just have to work a bit harder.”
While the hosts will take immense heart from pushing one of the tournament heavyweights to the brink, they are acutely aware of the gruelling schedule ahead in a tournament where the margins are razor-thin.
Around the Tournament
The Nations Cup burst into life across both pools on Thursday, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive week in Cape Town:
- Malaysia 5 – 2 Scotland: Malaysia announced themselves as serious contenders with Mohammad Abu Kamal Azrai netting a clinical hat-trick.
- Ireland 3 – 0 USA: World No. 9 Ireland flexed their muscles to beat the USA, with goals from Fergus Gibson, Ben Johnson, and Gregory Williams.
- Korea 1 – 1 Japan: An all-Asian thriller ended in a stalemate after Japan was denied a dramatic last-second winner by a video review that ruled the final hooter had sounded before the ball crossed the line.

Ackers: Bulls are good enough to beat Leinster in Ireland
Bulls head coach Johan Ackermann does not believe a win for his team against Leinster in their United Rugby Championship (URC) final next week is as far-fetched as his predecessor, Jake White, claimed after their hammering by the same side at the same venue last year.
The Bulls were thumped 32-7 in the United Rugby Championship final at Croke Park last season.
It was the Bulls’ third defeat in a URC final in four seasons, and the one White and captain Ruan Nortjé called their hardest.
‘They are the benchmark’
Leinster had an incredible build-up to that final, winning 16 of their 18 league matches, and sailing home against Scarlets 33-21 and Glasgow Warriors 37-19 in the play-offs.
Their performance in Dublin was near-perfect, and White didn’t just say his team weren’t good enough to beat a full-strength Leinster in Ireland – he said no other URC side were either.
“I’m sure any other team that caught this team today in the URC would have gone through exactly what we went through. Any other of those 15 teams,” White said afterwards.
“I’ve said it many times since I started here at this level with URC: they are the benchmark and tonight they showed it again. We were never going to win that game when they got that 14-point start.”
The Bulls have beaten Leinster in Ireland only once, in their 2022 semifinal at RDS Arena in Dublin (27-26). Leinster did not play to their standards in that game, however.
The Bulls have otherwise lost their three other encounters in Ireland.
Ackers believes that the Bulls can win
This year, new Bulls coach Ackermann was asked about White’s comments, which appeared to be the final straw in growing player discontent that ultimately saw the coach and club part ways.
“I look at the squad every week and I told them from the beginning, I believe we have the talent and team to win this trophy,” Ackermann said.
“Now after many months of rugby we are there and we have a shot… if you ask me do I believe we can win, I say yes.”
The Bulls coach said the Stormers had showed, fighting back from 13-0 and trailing 13-11 for more than 20 minutes, that Leinster were not indestructible at home.
He had also spoken about last year’s final to Bulls players who were there. They had “highlighted a few things building up to the game that probably caused them to start that badly”.
He said his side would have to defend better than they had all season in the final.
Discipline would also come into play, after two yellow cards and a 20-minute red cost the Stormers dearly in the second half of their semifinal against Leinster.
However, the Bulls would not rewrite the script that had helped them get this far.
Coupe du Monde 2026 – Groupe A : la Corée du Sud renverse la République Tchèque
La Corée du Sud a parfaitement lancé sa campagne à la Coupe du Monde 2026 en s’imposant 2-1 face à la République tchèque lors de la première journée du groupe A. Menés au score en seconde période, les Guerriers Taeguk ont trouvé les ressources nécessaires pour inverser la tendance et décrocher trois précieux points.

À dix minutes du terme, Hyeon-Gyu Oh a offert la victoire aux siens en trouvant le chemin des filets à la 80e minute. Bien servi par Hwang In-beom, l’attaquant a conclu une belle action collective pour permettre à la Corée du Sud de signer un précieux succès inaugural dans ce Mondial 2026.
Le Mexique prend les commandes du groupe A
Grâce à sa victoire 2-0 contre l’Afrique du Sud, le Mexique termine cette première journée à la première place du groupe A. El Tri devance la Corée du Sud à la différence de buts, tandis que la République tchèque et l’Afrique du Sud ferment la marche sans le moindre point.
Une deuxième journée déjà décisive
La suite de la compétition s’annonce passionnante dans cette poule. Le 18 juin à 16h GMT, la République tchèque tentera de se relancer face à l’Afrique du Sud. Le lendemain, dans le choc du groupe, le Mexique affrontera la Corée du Sud à 01h00 GMT. Cette rencontre pourrait déjà peser lourd dans la course à la qualification pour les huitièmes de finale de la Coupe du Monde 2026.
