Amical : Algérie – Mauritanie (2 – 0), succès maitrisé des Olympiques
Pour sa première sortie en amical face à la Mauritanie, au stade du 19 mai 1956 d’Annaba, la sélection nationale U-23 s’est imposée (2 – 0). Un succès maitrisé et un rendement perfectible.
Dans le cadre de ses préparatifs pour les éliminatoires de la Coupe d’Afrique des nations U-23 prévue en 2027 et qualificative pour les Jeux Olympiques de Los Angeles 2028, la sélection nationale U-23 (Olympique) a affronté, vendredi 5 juin, au stade du 19 mai 1956, son homologue mauritanienne (2 – 0).
Les deux buts algériens ont été inscrits en début et en fin d’une partie bien maitrisée par les protégés de Rafik Saïfi. chickenroad-game.rodeo
Après une incursion à la (1e) de Mohamed Ramdaoui, dont la frappe a été sauvée par le gardien Ibrahim El-Hendy puis une frappe de Mathéo Guendez mise en corner, ce dernier met un ballon sur la tête du défenseur du Paradou AC Abdelhak Ben Idder qui ouvre la marque (4e).
Les algériens poursuivent leurs attaques successives, mais l’excès de précipitation n’a pas permis aux coéquipiers du capitaine Adil Bourabaâ de concrétiser.
Passée la vingtième minute, les mauritaniens reviennent dans la partie et multiplient leur tour les offensives, dont quelques-unes ont failli faire mouche.
En seconde période, le match s’équilibra avant que les deux entraîneurs n’opèrent des changements. Le match s’anime de nouveau, et les algériens repartent à l’attaque, exerçant un fort pressing qui sera ponctué par un second but signé encore une fois de la tête, cette de Bourabaâ à la (84e).
Cette première manche se termina au profit des algériens qui auront à croiser de nouveau les Mourabitounes le mardi 9 juin dans la même enceinte annabie avant la clôture de ce stage plein d’enseignements.

L’Afrique du Sud lance les premières injections d’un traitement préventif révolutionnaire contre le VIH
L’Afrique du Sud a eu vendredi 5 juin le lancement officiel du Lenacapavir, un traitement contre le VIH catégorisé de révolutionnaire. Avec une seule injection tous les six mois, le médicament préventif atteint une efficacité qui frôle les 100 %. « Un signe d’espoir », pour le président Cyril Ramaphosa, alors que plus d’un Sud-Africain sur dix est malade du Sida. Pour ce lancement, un peu moins de 40 000 doses ont été réparties dans 360 cliniques du pays.
Liverpool appoint Spaniard Iraola as new boss
Liverpool named Andoni Iraola as their new manager on Thursday after sacking Arne Slot following a calamitous Premier League title defence.
Iraola quickly emerged as Liverpool’s top target to replace Slot, whose two-year reign came to a shock end when he was dismissed last Saturday.
Liverpool gave no indication as to the length of the 43-year-old Spaniard’s contract but British media have reported that he has signed a two-year deal.
“Really excited, really excited, because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it’s a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world,” Iraola, who called time on his impressive spell with Bournemouth at the end of this season, said on Liverpool’s official website.
“But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it’s a special club.
“You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool.
“But obviously the atmosphere, the supporters, the club, the players, the chance for me to coach top-level players, the chance to fight for titles.
“I think it cannot be more attractive than this. It’s difficult to find it. So, really excited to start.”
After criticism of Liverpool’s lacklustre performances in Slot’s second season at Anfield, Iraola is expected to deliver a more urgent, aggressive style of football, which characterised the team under beloved former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Iraola earned rave reviews for Bournemouth’s sixth-place finish in the Premier League this season, which secured the club’s first qualification for Europe, in the Europa League.
He arrived at the south coast club from Raya Vallecano in 2023, having previously managed Mirandes and AEK Larnaca in Cyprus.
Bournemouth improved each year under Iraola, finishing 12th, ninth and sixth.
The former defender was praised for his astute tactics and development of youngsters including Eli Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott.

Prior to leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, Egypt star Mohamed Salah recently called for a return to the “heavy metal football” that led to so much success under Klopp, heaping pressure on the beleaguered Slot.
Iraola has previously talked about his desire for his teams to play with an attacking, high-pressing style, in contrast to Slot’s more controlled approach.
That should be music to Liverpool fans’ ears.
“I can only say (to the fans) that I want to become one more of you, I want to earn the right to be one of you, so we can enjoy it all together,” Iraola told liverpoolfc.com.
Born in Spain’s Basque Country, Iraola played more than 500 games for Athletic Bilbao before a stint in Major League Soccer with New York City, where he teamed up with Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo.
He will arrive on Merseyside with Liverpool at a crossroads after Slot’s failure to maintain the club’s position at the summit of English football.
Slot had the tough task of replacing Klopp, who left in 2024 after winning the Premier League and Champions League during a golden nine-year spell at Anfield.
The former Feyenoord boss made a strong start, leading Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th English league title in his debut season, spearheaded by Salah’s 29 goals.
But Slot was unable to halt Liverpool’s slide in the 2025/26 season as the Reds collapsed from late September, finishing a turbulent season without a trophy.
The death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota in a car crash last July had an immeasurable impact on the squad, while the club’s £450 million ($605 million) splurge on new signings failed to pay off.
Slot’s relationship with Salah also deteriorated, while Liverpool fans turned on the manager due to his team’s lifeless displays and poor results.
The club limped to a fifth-place finish, 25 points behind champions Arsenal, which at least guaranteed qualification for next season’s Champions League.
SA A team crush England Lions in opening one-day match
The South African A team absolutely thrashed the England Lions by nine wickets in the opening one-day match of their three-game series at the County Ground in Grace Road, Leicester on Friday.
It was a perfect start to the series and a continuation of the visitors’ domination over the hosts, after they swept the four-day series two-nil, having won both matches by eight wickets.
The impressive one-day win was built around a superb bowling performance that saw SA A bowl out the Lions for a paltry 119, before they chased down the score without breaking a sweat.
At the start of play SA A captain Marques Ackermann won the toss and chose to field, which was a great decision as his bowlers responded in kind, taking regular wickets to skittle the Lions for a low total.
Star bowlers
Ottneil Baartman led the bowling effort with a superb 3/17 from his five overs, while Gerald Coetzee, 3/42, Bjorn Fortuin, 2/4, and Kwena Maphaka, 2/39, all backed him up well.
The SA A innings was then powered by Rubin Hermann, who struck an unbeaten 57 off 62 balls, and he was supported by fellow opener Tony de Zorzi, who hit 23 off 27, in a 43-run first wicket stand.
Hermann also shared an unbroken 77-run partnership with Ackermann, who contributed 34 not out off 28, as they cruised over the line in the 20th over.
Having enjoyed easy wins in all three of their matches in England so far, SA A will now be eager to seal the 50-over series in the second match at New Road Cricket Ground in Worcester on Sunday, ahead of the final game of their tour at the same ground next week Tuesday.
