Ma’a Nonu to make Sharks debut against All Blacks
New signing, Ma’a Nonu from New Zealand, will make his Sharks debut against many of his former team-mates when the All Blacks visit Kings Park in Durban next Tuesday.
The match will be the second for the touring All Blacks in Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series. Kick off in that game is 7.10pm.
Nonu, 44, a more than 100-cap veteran of All Blacks rugby, recently joined the Durban team. He will play off the bench, with the Sharks side including a number of quality players despite them being in the middle of their off-season.
Nick Hatton will captain the side, which includes Emmanuel Tshituka, Phepsi Buthulezi, Vincent Koch and rising stars like flyhalf Vusi Moyo, fullback Zekhethelo Siyaya and centre Jurenzo Julius.
Junior Bok stars Liam van Wyk, Rambo Kubekha, Matt Romao and Luan Giliomee feature among the bench sitters, with the likes of Vincent Tshituka.
The touring All Blacks open their eight-game visit to South Africa with a match against the Stormers in Cape Town Friday night.

Cape Town will ‘continue to grind’ after beating title holders Johannesburg
Having defeated defending champions Johannesburg on Friday, experienced goal shooter Sigi Burger said Cape Town were hoping to continue building momentum in an attempt to lift the trophy in front of their home crowd at the Spar National Netball Championships.
Cape Town and Tshwane were the only unbeaten teams remaining in the senior A division after two days of competition at the six-day domestic showpiece.
While Tshwane topped the round-robin log after winning three matches, and Cape Town were two points behind, the hosts held a game in hand.
And after beating title holders Johannesburg 55-47, the Cape Town side received a boost in confidence in the build-up to the playoffs.
“We have this win, but the aim of the game now is confident, clinical netball,” said Burger.
“We’re not resting on our laurels. Netball is a game of momentum and it’s the team with the least mistakes that wins, so taking it from here we will continue to grind and take every single game and every single quarter at 0-0. We just want to win quarter by quarter by playing good, clean netball.”
Motivated to double down
Last year, Cape Town beat Johannesburg in the opening round, but they went on to lose to the same opposition in the final.
Former Proteas player Burger, who is based in London, did not compete at the national championships last season. And while the Cape Town side also had some other changes to their squad, she said they were eager to ensure they followed through this time in an attempt to secure the SA title.
“With this win, now we know it’s not something to be scared of,” said Burger, who was playing at the national championships for the first time since 2018.
“It’s motivation to double down because we don’t like history repeating itself.”
Heading into the third day of the tournament, Mangaung were lying third in the standings, and while Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay were two points further back, both teams held a game in hand over the Free State side.

Ex-Chiefs winger explains why Pirates will retain the MTN8
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has tipped Orlando Pirates to retain the MTN8 title.
The Buccaneers begin their title defence this weekend when they host Durban City in the quarter-finals. Pirates are aiming to win the competition for a fifth consecutive season after lifting the trophy four years in a row.
Khanye believes Pirates have enough quality to go all the way despite losing star player Relebohile Mofokeng.
“Pirates are favourites,” he said ahead of the MTN8 clash with City.
“They haven’t changed their team a lot. Even though they lost their star player Relebohile Mofokeng, they beefed up their squad. I know Sundowns are a threat to any team, but there’s something we call momentum. Pirates started the season very well.
“I think, for me, Pirates will defend the MTN8. It’s straightforward,”he told iDiski TV.
The retired winger also backed Pirates to overcome Durban City, despite the Buccaneers being held by the KwaZulu-Natal side in a goalless Betway Premiership clash late last season.
“Class is permanent. If you watched that game, Pirates were without a striker and it had a huge impact. They did their homework on Rele and managed both Rele and Oswin Appollis. That game, Pirates offered nothing and failed to create chances.
Khanye tips Pirates for MTN8 glory
“They have nothing to lose, so they will try to play an open game. Last season, they also had nothing to lose; they just wanted to frustrate Orlando Pirates.”
Khanye predicted a comfortable 2-0 victory for the Buccaneers to book their place in the MTN8 semi-finals.
