SOULM8TE
Det råder knappast brist på filmer där androider, skapade att behaga människor, går apeshit och gör motsatsen. Robotar och AI har trots allt varit på tapeten i flera decennier, främst sedan Terminator. Men på senare år har det blivit något av en revival. Inte så konstigt med tanke på hur mycket mer plats AI kommit att ta i samhället när det gått från ett mardrömsscenario i filmvärlden till något som används professionellt och börjar dominera musik- och filmbransch och även litteraturen, där jag själv är verksam. Nu används det av gemene man för allt från bild- och videogenerering till matlistor och medicinska råd kring utslag på oönskade ställen. Men nog om AI i verkligheten. Vi skulle snacka om fiktion. 2022 blev M3GAN en succé. På förhand såg den rätt fånig ut men den var både underhållande och rätt snygg. Tvåan floppade däremot fullständigt, vilket jag kan förstå. Den var också snygg och rätt underhållande men lämnade helt konceptet från första filmen och försökte leverera någon form av blandning mellan sci-fi och actionkomedi som inte riktigt funkade. Förra året fick vi även Companion, där Jack Quaid från The Boys skaffar en androidflickvän. Den hade sina stunder men funkade inte hela vägen. Jag läste att Soulm8te, som är en spinoff till M3GAN, blev uppskjuten på grund av floppen med uppföljaren. Nu har den dock släppts digitalt.
Så, vad handlar den om?
En man som nyligen förlorat sin fru väljer att testa företagets nya AI-partner. I ett försök att skapa en verkligt medveten partner förvandlar han av misstag en ofarlig kärleksbot till något helt annat. En programmering som får ödesdigra konsekvenser.
En film om en mordisk lovebot. Låter det fånigt? Ja. På papperet. Men det gjorde även M3GAN, som trots allt överraskade mig positivt. Så även Companion, trots att den kanske inte höll hela vägen. Jag väljer därför att gå in i den här spirituella M3GAN-uppföljaren, eller spinoffen, med öppet sinne.
För regi svarar Kate Dolan som långfilmsdebuterade med You Are Not My Mother, en irländsk folkskräckis som jag inte sett. Hon har även regisserat avsnitt av suveräna Kin och Netflix-serien The Tourist. Skräckveteranerna James Wan och Jason Blum med flera i teamet från M3GAN står som producenter och det märks, för paketeringen är densamma även om Soulm8te innehåller mindre skojfriska inslag.
I rollen som roboten Sara ser vi Lily Sullivan från bland annat Lee Kronin-filmerna Evil Dead Rise och The Mummy. Den olyckliga kåtbocken David spelas av David Rysdahl från Alien: Earth, Fargo (serien) och Oppenheimer. Kollegan Aubrey spelas av Claudia Doumit från bland annat The Boys. Skådespeleriet är överlag bra och här finns egentligen inget att klaga på. Lily Sullivan levererar riktigt creepy och beundransvärd robotmimik.
Soulm8te beskrivs på sina ställen som en erotisk thriller. Låt mig slå hål på den myten. Genren erotisk thriller är laddad och för tankarna till filmer som Basic Instinct där sex och heta scener är en drivande faktor. Visst förekommer lite sex i Soulm8te och temat är trots allt en robot skapad för att behaga, men den är inte direkt snuskig. Inte nog för att kallas erotiskt thriller. Så ni som hoppas på raunchy robotsex blir nog besvikna.
Den är däremot väldigt underhållande och snyggt gjord. Det är ett intressant och aktuellt koncept och valet av en kvinnlig regissör känns på något sätt givet. Det finns ett djupare budskap som inte basuneras eller känns forcerat men ändå tillför något.
Jag kan tänka mig att det hade blivit rejält mycket mer fokus på ytligheter, snusk och closeups av specifika kroppsliga attribut om en man stått för regin, och kanske främst om filmen producerats några år tidigare. Inget fel i det, när det ändå beskrivs som betydligt mer fokus på erotik än slutprodukten bjuder på.
Tempot är relativt högt och man håller intresset uppe även om vi naturligtvis förstår att det hela kommer att gå åt helvete. Och rätt fort. Soulm8te bjuder dessutom på lite härligt gore, även om den inte är överdrivet blodig i jämförelse med mycket annat i genren.
Men välkommet är det.
Jag upplever den varken som läskig eller direkt obehaglig men underhållningsvärdet och nerven är stor. Jag uppskattar även, som jag ofta tjatar om när det kommer till skräck, att rollistan består av mindre igenkända namn. Det tillför något till upplevelsen. Vi kan klart konstatera att Soulm8te öppnar upp för mer och jag hade absolut inte haft något emot det. Faktum är att jag även hade kunnat tänka mig att placera arslet i soffan för mer M3GAN om man kravlade tillbaka till något mer skräckinspirerat snarare än försöket till onödigt utdragen actionkomedi som uppföljaren levererade.
Sammanfattningsvis så tycker jag att Soulm8te är ytterligare en av årets mer intressanta upplevelser, även om den inte är helgjuten och luktar lite mer scifi och thriller än skräck. Ge den en chans. Soulm8te släpptes digitalt i USA 1 augusti. Förhoppningsvis kommer den inom kort att landa i Sverige.

Whisper it quietly but perhaps that was the performance of a champion side. All week the talk had been about Wakefield Trinity and whether this could be the night they declared themselves as a Super League force in front of a sell-out crowd against Leeds Rhinos.

These two West Yorkshire rivals served up a classic under the Belle Vue lights but in the end, despite never leading until the 77th minute, it was Leeds who mustered up all their strength and championship credentials to complete a comeback which began when they trailed by 16 points with half an hour left.

Mit dem Heimsieg gegen Zweitliga-Absteiger Fortuna Düsseldorf hat der SV Waldhof Mannheim direkt zu Saisonbeginn ein kleines Ausrufezeichen gesetzt, will aber dennoch auf dem Boden bleiben. Umso schwärmten die Beteiligten von der Atmosphäre im Stadion.
"Das getan, wovon ich geträumt habe"
Laut war es, sehr laut sogar, als die Mannschaft nach Spielende vor die Fankurve kam und sich feiern ließ. Schon während der 90 Minuten zuvor herrschte im Carl-Benz-Stadion eine fantastische Atmosphäre, die auch Kapitän Lukas Klünter ins Schwärmen brachte. "Ich hatte Gänsehaut, als ich rausgekommen bin", gab er bei "MagentaSport" zu Protokoll. Während der Verteidiger die Lautstärke bereits aus der vergangenen Saison kannte, war es für Trainer Rui Mota ein neues Gefühl.
"Ich möchte unseren Fans danken, denn sie haben genau das getan, wovon ich geträumt habe: dass wir einen zwölften Mann hinter uns haben", sagte der Portugiese. "Sie haben uns angefeuert, das hat uns viel Energie gegeben." Die Kulisse im Stadion sei auch ein Grund gewesen, warum er nach Mannheim gekommen sei. "Ich bin komplett leidenschaftlich beim Fußball. Und ich weiß, dass es im deutschen Fußball genauso ist. Das ist meine Identität. Ich weiß, dass vor allem die Fans hier in Mannheim eine großartige Unterstützung sind. Das ist etwas, worüber ich sehr glücklich bin."
"Erster guter Schritt"
Sehr glücklich zeigte sich Mota, der Noah Sarenren Bazee überraschend nicht für den Kader nominiert hatte und Claudio Kammerknecht nur auf der Bank ließ, auch über den Auftritt seiner Mannschaft. "Das Wichtigste ist, das erste Spiel zu gewinnen." Der 47-Jährige sprach von einer "intensiven" Partie und betonte, dass es "sehr gut" getan habe, das 1:0 nach einem Traumtor von Thill aus fast 30 Metern in Minute 18 mit in die Kabine zu nehmen. "Wir haben uns in der Pause vorgenommen, schnell das 2:0 nachzulegen, was uns dann auch gelungen ist. Düsseldorf hat dann mehr Druck entfacht. Es wurde dann etwas chaotischer und es haben sich mehr Räume ergeben. Wir sind sehr glücklich, dass wir den Sieg einfahren konnten.“
Überbewerten wollte Klünter diesen aber nicht, zumal der 30-Jährige Glück hatte, nicht bereits nach vier Minuten wegen einer Notbremse gegen Düsseldorfs Schleusener vom Platz geflogen zu sein. Der Verteidiger sprach von einem "ersten guten Schritt", der aber noch nicht allzu aussagekräftig sei. Insgesamt gehe es in dieser Saison darum, nochmal einen Schritt nach vorne zu machen. Am kommenden Sonntag wartet mit dem F.C. Hansa Rostock direkt der nächste Topgegner, ehe es zum mit Spannung erwarteten Pokal-Derby gegen den 1. FC Kaiserslautern kommen wird. "Da wird die Bude brennen. Nicht nur auf den Rängen, sondern auch auf dem Platz", blickte Klünter voraus.
Mistfall Hunter Withered Knight class build and guide
A good Withered Knight build plays into this classes' strength, which is trying to apply as much burst damage as possible to panic enemies before they can retaliate. The Withered Knight is a slow and fiddly character to use from the selection of Mistfall Hunter classes, so all of its strengths come from trying to kill things as fast as possible before they can get the upper hand. To do that, you'll want to build it all out around the Wither ability, which lets you apply a mark to enemies and then execute them for extra damage. It's all about patience and care - making sure you don't miss and understanding that despite looking like a tank, this Withered Knight can get taken apart very easily.
How to play Withered Knight in Mistfall
The entire point of the Withered Knight is to do damage via a Withered ability. This is powered by light attacks that charge your sword with Judgment after three hits. This Judgment can then be used to add a Withered mark to an enemy, which is then Executed mainly by heavy attacks for extra damage.
If that sounds complicated, then all you're doing is charging your sword with basic attacks. placing that charge on an enemy and then detonating it for extra damage.
Because of this, all your skills and talents should be built around doing that as quickly as possible. For that reason, focus on the Greatsword for this build. The Knight's secondary weapon, the Polearm and Shield, has its uses, especially in a team, but generally doesn't do as much damage, and is more of a defensive playstyle which hampers the 'doing as much damage as you can' tactic you need to lean into. I also find it exacerbates all the Knight's problems, with having attacks that are easy to miss or leave you open.
Best Withered Knight Skills
To get the best out of the Withered Knight you're going to want to access the Greatsword Specialisation from the Weapon specialisation Talents. I'll explain more about that in Talents below but that will basically give you one extra skill for you Greatsword, but take one away from your Polearm. Using that you can then use these three weapon skills:
Greatsword weapon skills
- Radiant Retribution: This is a series of three quick wide slashes that will fully charge your sword with Judgement, ready to apply Wither. You can also use Radiant Retribution Enhancement Talent to increase the distance you can move farward whilew using it. It's a powerful option that can open a fight and charge your sword at the same time.
- Breakthrough charge: This is a two stage attack that starts with a dash, letting you close the distance on an enemy fast. It gives you an element of surprise, as well the ability to close distances fast.
- Parry: Because I'm playing down the Polearm here this will be one of your core defensive moves. This puts you in a defensive posture that will prevent you from taking damage for either five second or five hits. Any time after a parry you can also then trigger a swipe or dash attack to apply Wither to an enemy. It does lock you into a slow, defensive posture so be ready to cancel out of it if you misread a situation or change your mind.
Withered Knight Polearm and Shield weapons skills
Because I'm using the Greatsword Specialisation from the Weapon specialisation Talents you'll only have one weapon skill for your Polearm and Shield. depending on what you want these are the best two options - what you pick depends on if you want something offensive, or something defensive. That said, the Sacred Bulwark is probably the best overall if you're playing in a team.
- Sacred Bulwark: This creates a large magical barrier that blocks attacks and enemies from passing through, so it's great to provide cover for a team. However, while you can fire the barrier forwards for damage and knockback, you're immobile while h9olding it. Making it of limited use on your own.
- Javelin Thrust: This lets you throw your spear at an enemy and then pull yourself to them and apply Wither. It's a good option for increased mobility and traversal and probably the talent you want if you're playing solo. Thorn Guide, which does something similar on the Greatsword, only moves you and applies no damage or affects, which is why this is the better option.
Withered Knight Talents
Obviously there's a lot of Talents to chose from and you can unlock more as you level up but these are the essentials for me to get the class powered up quickly.
- Weapon Specialisation
- Greatsword Specialisation - this will give you a third Greatsword weapon at the expense of a Polearm one.
- Greatsword: Core Archetype
- Crime - This is a critical skill you can't afford to miss out as it prevents a Withered mark being consumed when you Execute it. That means you can keep Executing a Withered enemy. It slightly reduces damage over all but that's offset by the ability to keep laying on burst damage.
- Bad Karma - This unlocks after Crime and lets you apply a series of debuffs when Execute extends Wither's duration. Firstly it'll affect and enemies movement speed, then increase its vulnerability, and finally it case health loss over time. Paired with Crime it increases your damage and affects on the enemy
- Greatsword: Radiant Retribution Enhancement
- Long Range - This increases the displacement range of the Radiant Retribution weapon skill, letting you attack from further away.
There are obviously a lot more Talents you can use but these are the core ones you want to build off. Legacy in the Greatsword: Core Archetype section is good way to claw back health in a fight, for example, while Dominance in the Greatsword: Breakthrough Charge Enhancement section gives you a moment of Super Armor to negate stagger at the end of that attack - useful if you use it to charge into a crowd. Defensive Shift, from Polearm and Shield: Sacred Bulwark Enhancement is also useful if you chose that skill as it gives the ability to move around slightly instead of being locked in place.
Withered Knight affixes and effects
The main thing to focus on in terms of addition to affixes and effects - via Victory wine and gear - is anything that increase your Burst Affix. This increases your damage from Executing Wither, making it vital for this class. Other good options include Valour to increase your attack generally, while Tenacious and Aegis increase your health and defence respectively.
