Report: Rams have made calls about trading up and down in Round 1

The Los Angeles Rams are set to pick earlier than they have in any of the last nine years, holding the 13th overall selection in the first round. The last time they picked this high was in 2016 when they took Jared Goff first overall.

That doesn't mean they're certain to stay at 13, though. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Rams have explored the possibility of trading up, and they've also made calls about moving down the board.

Four that have at least explored moving up (with a caveat coming), in order of where they’re picking: the Chiefs, Cowboys, Rams and Eagles. And, yes, I could see a scenario where each of them moves, which we did mention in Tuesday’s notes column. But the twist to it is that I’ve heard that all four have also made calls on the idea of trading down. likesport.biz

Breer speculated who the Rams might be targeting if they trade up from No. 13, naming two enticing prospects: running back Jeremiyah Love and wideout Jordyn Tyson.

"For the Rams, my guess would be a skill guy, like Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love or Tyson," he wrote.

The Rams have three picks in the top 100, so they have enough capital to move up if they want. But they also don't have any fourth- or fifth-round picks, which makes trading back and adding mid-round selections enticing.

Les Snead did say earlier this offseason that the Rams were OK trading away Day 3 picks for Trent McDuffie because they feel the class thins out late, so maybe he's not interested in acquiring more late-round picks in this year's draft.

We'll soon find out which direction the Rams go.

No. 1 seed Detroit defeated No. 8 seed Orlando, 98-83, Wednesday in Game 2 of the NBA playoffs first round at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

The best-of-seven series is tied, 1-1, between the Pistons and Magic.

Former Tennnessere basketball player Tobias Harris started and played 33 minutes for the Pistons. He recorded a double-double, totaling 16 points and 11 rebounds. Harris also recorded one assist, two steals and two blocks. He converted 7-of-17 field goal attempts and 2-of-2 free throw attempts.

Harris played for the Vols from 2010-11 under head coach Bruce Pearl. In his one season at Tennessee, he averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 assists per game. Harris was a Second-Team All-SEC performer and a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team. He received Second-Team Freshman All-America honors by the USBWA.

The former Vol was selected in the first round of the 2011 NBA draft (No. 19 overall) by the Bobcats.

In his NBA career, Harris has played for Milwaukee (2011-13), Orlando (2013-16), Detroit (2016-18, 2024-26), the Clippers (2018-19) and Philadelphia (2019-24).

Former Vol and rookie Chaz Lanier did not play for the Pistons in Game 2 due to a coach's decision.

Game 3 of the series is slated for Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. EDT at Kia Center in Orlando, Florida.

It's draft day, and everyone will soon find out what the Los Angeles Rams' plans are for the No. 13 pick.

In his final mock draft before the first round starts, ESPN's Field Yates went with Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano despite USC receiver Makai Lemon and others still on the board. Those two positions seem to be the ones experts are waffling between for L.A., but Yates likes Fano's potential to play all five offensive line positions as a cornerstone for the team's future and to keep Matthew Stafford upright in 2026.

Is there a decided need right now for the Rams along the offensive line? There isn't, but Fano is a good enough player and there is no such thing as too much offensive line depth. That's especially true for a team led by a quarterback in Matthew Stafford who lacks mobility. Fano was an offensive tackle throughout college, but some evaluators say they believe he has the goods to play any of the five positions.

Fanu is a three-year starter with a good frame who started as a left tackle for Utah before playing his final two seasons at right tackle. Projected starting right tackle Warren McClendon Jr. is in the final year of his contract, as well as starting guards Steve Avila and Kevin Dotson.

While drafting an offensive tackle might not make an immediate impact for 2026, adding some insurance to arguably the team's most valuable non-quarterback area is quietly a smart play in a critical year for the franchise.

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona will visit Getafe in La Liga on Saturday probably without Lamine Yamal after he injured himself while scoring a penalty.

The 18-year-old Yamal secured the 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga on Wednesday but after his spot kick he immediately dropped to the ground and grabbed the back of his left leg. He was promptly substituted.

As of Thursday morning the club had yet to issue a medical report on his status.

Key matches

Barcelona holds a healthy nine-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid as the season enters its home stretch with six games remaining.

Madrid visits fifth-placed Real Betis on Friday needing a victory to maintain its options of catching the defending champion. Madrid will visit Barcelona in three rounds on May 10.

La Liga is the only chance either powerhouse has to finish the season with a major title after both were eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals last week.

“Our objective has to be to win all six matches, regardless of what Barcelona does," said Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who replaced Xabi Alonso midseason and is most likely to be replaced this summer.

Atletico, which beat Barcelona to reach the final four of the Champions League, will most likely prioritize next week’s semifinal against Arsenal over its domestic match against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Coach Diego Simeone is sure to rotate his squad and rest his best players for Wednesday's home game against Arsenal.

Villarreal hosts Celta on Sunday aiming to hold onto third place and the corresponding Champions League berth for next season.

Players to watch

With Yamal and attack partner Raphinha likely to be unavailable, coach Hansi Flick still has options to form his starting front line. They include forward Marcus Rashford, winger Roony Bardghji or even Dani Olmo, Gavi Paéz or Fermín López shifting forward from the midfield.

Kylian Mbappé leads the league with 24 goals — three more than Mallorca's Vedat Muriqi — after he scored to help Madrid beat Alaves 2-1 on Tuesday. That broke a winless run of four games overall for Arbeloa's side.

Out of action

Besides Yamal, Barcelona will likely also be without right back Joao Cancelo after he was injured in the Celta win, too.

Madrid will be missing central defender Éder Militão and in-form midfielder Arda Güler after the club said on Wednesday they both had muscle injuries.
