Recent champions Michigan and Florida headline fields in Players Era as its splits into 2 tournaments
LAS VEGAS — The Players Era will expand from 18 to 24 teams this year and split into two tournaments, with the two most recent national champions headlining a pair of loaded fields.
Michigan, which won the national title in April, will be in the Players Era Sixteen on Thanksgiving week in Las Vegas. The Wolverines routed Gonzaga 101-61 to win last year’s Players Era title. They are expected to contend again next season for the national championship even with nine newcomers on the roster. raccoongame.org
Florida, which won the national title a year ago and could be the No. 1 team heading into next season, will be in the Players Era Eight a week earlier. The Gators should have the nation’s top frontcourt with the returns of Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon as well as Rueben Chinyelu if he opts out of the NBA draft. Florida was not in the Players last year, but opened its season in Las Vegas with a 93-87 loss to Arizona.
The Players Era and ESPN also announced a multiyear agreement for the men’s tournaments, though details weren’t released. There also was a women’s tournament last year, but there has been no announcement regarding another one.
In the Players Era Eight, joining Florida will be Auburn, Houston, Kansas, Notre Dame, Rutgers, UNLV and West Virginia.
Michigan’s field in the Players 16 includes Alabama, Baylor, Creighton, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Oregon, St. John’s, San Diego State, Tennessee, Texas Christian and Texas Tech.
The Players Era, which will be in its third year, has replaced the Maui Invitational and Battle 4 Atlantis as the premier early season event in college basketball. Tournament co-founder Seth Berger said during last year’s event that participating teams receive on average at least $1 million in name, image and likeness money.
The Big 12 Conference owns an equity stake. The top eight teams in the standings receive automatic bids into following year’s event, an agreement that goes through 2030.

The Green Bay Packers lost their reliable backup quarterback, Malik Willis, to the Miami Dolphins in free agency this offseason, but the team has finally found a replacement.
Green Bay signed Tyrod Taylor on Monday to step in as the likely No. 2 quarterback behind Jordan Love. Taylor has spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets, appearing in eight games with four starts.
Though Taylor isn't an exciting signing and doesn't provide the same upside that Willis did when he joined the team before the 2024 season through a trade with the Tennessee Titans, Taylor is actually the perfect backup for what the Packers need behind Love in 2026.

Taylor has a ton of experience under his belt, having started 62 games in his 15-year career and posting a record of 29-31-1.
The 36-year-old has been part of multiple quarterback rooms in a multitude of roles, whether as a starter, backup, or even third-string. Taylor is the definition of a professional who will be a fantastic veteran presence for Love, and it sounds like he's already making his presence felt in Green Bay despite signing just a few days ago.
"He's only been here a couple days, but the cool part when he walked in the room, you could feel the presence, the confidence, the composure," Packers QB coach Luke Getsy said of Taylor via Packers.com. "He's seen a lot. He's been in a lot of different systems, so (you can see) how quickly he's able to pick up on things. He showed up when we're going right to drills and he's a true pro and it was pretty cool to see. As far as the juice, he's definitely still got that."
Though he has mainly been a backup over the last few years, Taylor is more than capable of filling in as a starter if the Packers need him. However, the Virginia Tech product's biggest impact will come off the field, as his wisdom and experience should make a major difference in Green Bay this season.
CCTV images released following pitch invasion after Old Firm game
Police have released CCTV images of 24 people as part of an investigation into violent clashes at the Scottish Cup Quarter Final at Ibrox.
Supporters and police officers were injured, and nine people were arrested following a pitch invasion after Celtic's penalty shootout win over Rangers on Sunday 8 March.
Those shown in the images, or anyone who believes they recognise them, are asked to contact police.
Information can also be sent directly to the investigation team through theMajor Incident Public Portal (MIPP).
Following the game, Rangers "unequivocally" condemned the disorder, while Celtic said "examples of unacceptable behaviour" must be addressed.
Before the clubs reacted, Chief Constable Jo Farrell had criticised them for failing to speak out.
Speaking at the Scottish Parliament, she said more needed to be done to allow people to attend matches without fearing for their safety.
The Scottish FA launched an independent review of the match, which was welcomed by both clubs.
The SFA said it hoped the review would "ensure no repeat" of what unfolded, which it said "tarnished the image and reputation of the game".

Michigan basketball finalizing rematch with UConn in Boston: report
Michigan basketball may open next season the way it ended the last one − in a matchup with UConn.
According to reports, the Wolverines and Huskies are in the process of finalizing a matchup to meet on Friday, Nov. 6 at TD Garden (home of the Boston Celtics) in Boston. The two met in the national championship game last month in the final game of the year in Indianapolis; U-M won 69-63 to claim the program's second title in its history.
It was the third time UConn played for the national championship in the past four seasons.
The game was a bit of a slugfest, with the Wolverines making just 2 of 15 3-pointers, none of which were bigger than Trey McKenney's late-game 3 to put the Wolverines up nine with less than two minutes to play. McKenney is one of three expected key contributors back from last year's team, along with Elliot Cadeau and injured guard L.J. Cason, who is on the mend from ACL surgery.
The Wolverines will have a new-look roster this time around, having added a trio of key transfer players in J.P. Estrella (Tennessee), Moustapha Thiam (Cincinnati) and Jalen Reed (LSU). U-M also has an impressive incoming freshman class, led by five-star Brandon McCoy, McDonald's All-American Quinn Costello, Joseph Hartmann, Malachi Brown, Lincoln Cosby and Marcus Moller.
Returnees Oscar Goodman and Ricky Liburd are expected to be in the rotation, as well.
UConn has five returners from last year's team in Solo Ball, Silas Demary Jr., Braylon Mullins, Jacob Ross and Jayden Ross under coach Dan Hurley. The Huskies also added four transfer portal players in Oskar Giltay (Stanford), Najai Hines (Seton Hall), Nikolas Khamenia (Duke) and Nils Machowski (UCF, Wofford) and freshmen Junior County and Colben Landrew.
Michigan had two exhibitions ahead of the 2025-26 season against Cincinnati and St. John's, both in October, before it opened the regular season against Oakland on Nov. 3. It's not immediately clear if UConn will be the season-opener or the second game of the season, but either way, it will be an early test for a new-look U-M squad.
