Dolphins Eye 26-Year-Old Dual-Threat QB to Replace Tua
Sources say the Dolphins are leaning toward a 26‑year‑old dual‑threat quarterback as the next starter, potentially filling the void left by Tua Tagovailoa.
High school baseball: American Fork, Spanish Fork, Crimson Cliffs, Union and Kanab check in at No. 1 in 2026 preseason coaches rankings
With the way mother nature have behaved this year, it’s been tough to tell what season we’re actually in. But according to the UHSAA high school sports calendar, spring is just around the corner.
The high school baseball season officially gets underway on Monday, March 2, and here’s a look at the preseason favorites in all five classifications.
Three of the five preseason No. 1s in the coaches preseason rankings are defending state champs — American Fork (6A), Spanish Fork (5A) and Crimson Cliffs (4A). The other two preseason favorites are Union (3A) and Kanab (2A).
In 6A, American coach Jared Ingersol said his team has some big shoes to fill with the graduation of last year’s Mr. Baseball CJ Mascaro and first team all-stater Cooper Jones. The Cavemen definitely have talent returning though with last year’s playoff MVP Kenny Johnson and first team all-staters Cache Poulson and Bode Gaggero.
Big things are also expected from preseason No. 2 Riverton and No. 3 Lehi.
In 5A, Spanish Fork is loaded for a run at a repeat after last year’s unlikely run to the state championship as the No. 20 seed. The Dons went 9-1 in the playoffs.
“We are really excited for this upcoming season. We return 8 of 9 position players and our whole pitching staff is back. We hope to build on the great of the season we had last year,” said Spanish Fork coach Hadley Thorpe.
Headlining that group is junior Nixon Warren, a returning 5A all-stater from a year ago.
Maple Mountain was the No. 1 seed heading into last year’s state tournament, and it will begin the season ranked No. 2 in the rankings.
In 4A, Crimson Cliffs won the state championship as the No. 8 seed, but there are big expectations this year with plenty of returning starters and experience.
“This team is returning a lot of guys from last year which helps us big time when it comes to experience and leadership. Our young guys have had a really good fall and early spring,” said Crimson Cliffs coach Justin Abbot.
Outfield Cutter Christensen is the top returning player for the Mustangs as he was voted a first team all-stater in 2025.
In 3A, defending state champion Canyon View will begin the season ranked No. 2 behind Union in the preseason rankings.
The Cougars are led by returning all-staters in senior Gannon Labrum and junior Dylan Watagomigie
“Excited about the opportunity to compete this season. We have a strong group returning and look forward to our strong schedule,” said Union coach Matt Labrum.
Canyon View graduated three of its four first team all-staters from a year ago and has some notable holes to fill.
In 2A, defending state champ South Sevier is in a similar position after graduating its top three players a year ago. It opens the season ranked third behind No. 1 Kanab and No. 2 Beaver.
Kanab was the 2A runner-up a year ago and is loaded with returning contributors from that group.
" We are excited as a coaching staff to see what we can do this year together,” said Kanab coach Craig Brinkerhoff.

HUSKERS SOFTBALL Recap – On the Cusp of an Undefeated Weekend: #6 NEBRASKA 9 – Seattle U. 0 (6 inn.)
The Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic is typically one of the toughest non-conference invitationals in the country.
And had their first two weekends not been so loaded, games against the #11 and #13 ranked teams in a slate of five might have seemed a little stronger. But, regardless of that, the Huskers are on the cusp of accomplishing what few do – going undefeated at a weekend in Palm Springs where the tourney takes place.
I never like to take anything for granted, but their next opponent, California, is, at the time of this writing, making their way over from one of the side fields after losing to Auburn 19-5.
Ouch.
As for Nebraska, they dispatched Seattle University 9-0 in much the same fashion they won their first three games by the scores of 9-1, 13-0 and 8-2 – stellar pitching and big innings at the plate.
A 2-run 1st inning, a 4-run 3rd and a 3-run top of the 6th slowly dismantled the Redhawks’ staff as all five pitchers were used. The Huskers went with Hannah Camenzind for her second start of the weekend and she responded with 5 more shutout innings, after Friday’s no-hitter, giving her 10 scoreless so far this weekend and lowering her ERA to a team-best 1.15. She scattered 4 hits while striking out 4 with no walks.
Jordy Frahm, playing 1st base, did the most damage at the plate going 2-for-3 and launching the 3-run bomb over the right center field fence which gave the Huskers the margin to end things an inning early. Also with multiple hits was freshman Carlie Muhlbach who went 2-for-2 with a couple of RBI singles of her own and just keeps making me look smarter and smarter. She is hitting .444 with an OBP of .615. (Patting self on back. And, yes, I’ll shuttup about it. For now. Don’t judge me.)
Ava Kuszak continued bouncing back with another hit and a couple of runs – per Coach Rhonda Revelle, hitting coach Diane Miller fixed a hitch in her swing prior to this weekend and the results are showing. Six of the nine starters got a hit today as the team batting average continues to rise.
The weekend concludes against California scheduled now for 1:45.
Broncos' best replacement options for free agents they may lose in 2026

The 2026 NFL free-agent market will soon open, bringing forth countless questions about where players will sign, how much money they will get, and what teams will do to replace the players who have moved on to new teams.
For the Denver Broncos, there are some key in-house free agents whom the team will have to determine whether to continue on with or find new options. In some cases, the money offered by another team may be too much to overcome.
Here, we will examine some of the top free agents the Broncos have who could be moving on this offseason and, if they do, what the best direction to replace them is.
Top replacement options for Broncos' free agents
Justin Strnad and/or Alex Singleton, Linebacker
Though the Broncos should be looking for offensive upgrades in free agency, the biggest question when it comes to their own free agents is at the inside linebacker spot.
Both Justin Strnad and Alex Singleton are set to be unrestricted free agents, and each player should have a market. It would be in the team's best interest to bring at least one of them back, particularly when you consider that there will be a big decision to make on Dre Greenlaw's future. The team could save $8.1 million against the cap if they designate him as a post-June 1 cut.
Inside linebacker has been a weakness on the Broncos' roster for quite some time, so the team should look at upgrades, regardless of what they do with their own players. But if more than one of these players is not on the team next year, they have some options out there.
Best replacement options: Sign Nakobe Dean in free agency or use the No. 30 pick in the first round on Georgia linebacker CJ Allen.
J.K. Dobbins, Running Back
The Broncos have quite the decision to make at the running back position, but it's clear that a big move needs to be made.
They already have RJ Harvey on the roster and his future looks bright. However, they need an experienced runner who can do a little bit of everything to make sure the rushing attack stays potent down the stretch of the season.
One of the biggest reasons the Broncos fell short of reaching the Super Bowl was their lack of a running game once J.K. Dobbins went down with a foot injury. Does the team run it back with Dobbins, who has never finished a season in his career due to injury? Or does the team spend some money and look for a more reliable option?
Best replacement option: Sign Breece Hall in free agency
Hall is likely going to be the most expensive running back on this year's market, but that is for good reason. He is a terrific overall player and is one of the best receiving running backs in the league. At 25 years old in May, youth is still well on his side, so paying him the $10.4 million annual salary that Spotrac estimates he will get should not be out of the question.
John Franklin-Myers, Defensive Lineman
This will be one of the trickier decisions for the Broncos to wrestle with this offseason, as it seems all but sure that John Franklin-Myers will be playing somewhere else next season.
The player who will ultimately replace Franklin-Myers is likely already on the roster and the Broncos have multiple choices to go with there, including Eyioma Uwazurike and last year's third-round pick, Sai'vion Jones. Still, the team should find a bargain option in free agency to help bolster the depth chart and veteran defensive lineman Greg Gaines could make some sense in that role.

Gaines, a fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, has spent the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He's an experienced player who offers something in the pass-rushing department, as he has 14.5 career sacks.
Best replacement option: Promote from within and sign Greg Gaines in free agency
