Nebraska baseball drops 4-2 battle against No. 15 Louisville
Nebraska baseball (3-2) battled No. 15 Louisville (3-2) to open up the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series on Friday afternoon. The Huskers fell to the Cardinals, 4-2, dropping a 2-0 lead.
Nebraska built up its 2-0 lead through the first five innings, with Cole Kitchens hitting an RBI single in the third and Dylan Carey delivering a solo home run in the fifth. But Louisville took the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs off just three hits and a Husker error. The Cardinals add their final run in the seventh with a home run.
Both teams finished with eight hits, but Louisville produced three RBIs and left seven runners on base. Nebraska totaled two RBIs and left 10 runners on base.
Carey led the Huskers in the batter's box, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. He has delivered two-plus hits in each of Nebraska's first five games, the first Husker to achieve that feat since 2000. Kitchens finished with one hit, alongside Will Jesske, Jett Buck, Joshua Overbeek and Max Buettenback.
Caleb Clark (1-1) suffered the loss at the mound, despite only pitching 0.1 innings. He allowed one hit, one walk and two unearned runs. Ty Horn started the game for the Huskers, tossing 5.0 innings. He threw five strikeouts, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks. Ryan Harrahill pitched the final 2.2 innings, throwing two strikeouts and surrendering one run and two hits.
Nebraska continues the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series on Saturday night against Kansas State. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m. on FloCollege.com.
