The younger Manning is just 14 years old and will likely be a member of the class of 2030, but his arm talent and accuracy are already impressive for a rising high school freshman.

“We can’t control the noise,” Manning, who attends Baylor School in Chattanooga, wrote in a post on Instagram. “We can only control the work!”

Manning is currently not rated as a recruit, and he doesn't have any schools of interest listed on his 247Sports page. Whether he ultimately becomes the No. 1 recruit in the country as his cousin did a few years ago remains to be seen, but the noise around Manning is only likely to grow as his high school career begins next fall.

Opener Ben Slater led the way with a superb 178 as Nottinghamshire dominated the opening day of their County Championship meeting with East Midlands neighbours Leicestershire.

Backed up by half-centuries from England's Ben Duckett (77) and Joe Clarke (80 not out), the 34-year-old left-hander hit 24 boundaries as his outstanding performance enabled the 2025 champions to close on 405-4.

It was a chastening experience for Leicestershire, last season's Division Two champions, who had hoped their seamers might exploit what looked like a bowler-friendly pitch at Grace Road after winning the toss but, with the exception of Ben Green (3-88), were never able to impose themselves enough.

And they were forced to ask for an injury substitution in the final session, Tom Scriven coming in for Josh Davey after the latter limped off following an awkward fall in the field.

The early signs were good for Leicestershire as a Davey inswinger deceived Haseeb Hameed in the opening over, the ball just missing off stump as the Nottinghamshire skipper offered no shot and in his opening over, Ian Holland then beat Slater twice.

Thereafter, easy runs were offered in abundance. Slater, whose cutting and driving were excellent all day, helped himself to eight boundaries in completing his third half-century of the season from 68 balls.

But Green produced a good ball to find the edge as Hameed departed via an excellent catch by wicketkeeper Ben Cox but that was the sole wicket of the first session which ended with Notts on 120-1.

The afternoon followed a similar pattern. with both Slater and Duckett taking advantage, the latter punishing Holland with three crisp straight drives, one after the other.

Green, only marginally more effective in containing him, was dispatched down the same route as Duckett's third consecutive 50 arrived from 52 balls.

Slater lost a little of his momentum, spending a dozen overs working through the 90s and when his first hundred of the season arrived, it had been 15 overs since his 15th boundary.

Duckett, though, missed out again as Ajaz Patel, the New Zealand Test bowler, extracted some revenge, beating his pull-sweep to trap him leg-before.

New batsman Clarke took his season's aggregate beyond 500 runs and Slater's 150 came off 247 balls.

Having offered one edge at catchable height off Green on 169, when the ball passed between 'keeper Cox and Rishi Patel with neither committing to it, he finally fell trying to defend a delivery from the same bowler that took a thin edge.

Green then accounted for nightwatchman Olly Stone, caught at second slip without scoring.

A non-league club that Manchester United legend George Best once played for has been given permission to merge with another local team.

The Football Association (FA) has given the go-ahead for Dunstable Town and AFC Dunstable to join together to form Dunstable FC.

"This is a massive step forward for the future of football in our town," a statement on the Dunstable Town website read.

The FA was first notified of the plan in December and the following month the two clubs said they were engaged in "positive and constructive discussions" with a view to a merger.

Dunstable Town were founded in 1883 and finished 17th in South Midlands League Premier Division this season.

It was in 1974 that Best turned out as a guest for the team, then managed by Barry Fry, the current director of football at Peterborough United.

AFC Dunstable, who formed as Old Dunstablians in the early 1980s, ended the season bottom of Southern League Division One Central, winning only three of their 42 matches.

The two clubs are now awaiting final sign-off from the Financial Conduct Authority, with work to appoint a board and coaching staff, and to confirm a club crest and kit design, to follow.

The 2026 NBA draft isn't far off, and this month's NBA Draft Combine will go a long way in helping determine which players will hear their names called. Aspiring draftees will get a chance to show off their skills, and try to convince teams they are worth selecting. Three Kentucky Wildcats will be in that group.

Guard Otega Oweh is the player who, perhaps, needs this event the most. Though he was a star at Kentucky, he may not be drafted. His game isn't typical of where the NBA is at these days. He doesn't shoot threes particularly well, and relies on a lot of mid-range jumpers. However, he's a good defender and can get to the rim, so he could find a niche.

Jayden Quaintance is a likely first round pick, and possibly goes in the top 20. He is a great rebounder and rim protector, though his offensive game needs polish. He will need to use the combine to show his knee is healthy.

Malachi Moreno is currently projected as a second round pick. He has NBA size and has flashed a diverse skill set. With some further development, he could be a lottery pick, which is why most expect him to return to Kentucky for next season.

The combine takes place from May 10 - 17, and the deadline to return to school is May 27. Good luck to all three Wildcats.
