Adham Refai Joins RFC Liège on Loan With Buy Option

Egyptian teenager Adham Refai has joined Belgian second-tier side RFC Liège from El Gouna on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

RFC Liège officially announced the transfer on Sunday, and while El Gouna described the agreement as a one-season loan in its announcement, Liège holds an option to make the move permanent.

Refai made his competitive debut on the day of the announcement. He entered in the 64th minute of Liège’s 3-2 away win over Jong Genk in the Challenger Pro League.

The 18-year-old replaced Ryan Ogam, who had scored what proved to be the winning goal six minutes earlier. Liège secured their first victory of the season after losing 2-1 to Francs Borains in their opening match.

Refai had already spent time with the Belgian side before completing the transfer, as RFC Liège said he featured in several of their pre-season friendlies.

Born on September 29, 2007, Refai primarily plays as an attacking midfielder. He can also operate on either wing, although El Gouna has mainly used him as a left winger.

RFC Liège described the right-footed player as a direct attacker who can beat opponents one-on-one and make an impact in the final third.

Refai made 14 first-team appearances for El Gouna last season. He scored two goals and registered two assists in the process. He has been part of El Gouna’s senior setup since 2025.

Refai also plays for the Egyptian national team at the under-19 level. He scored during the young Pharaohs’ 2-1 victory over Oman in May.

RFC Liège compete in Belgium’s second division and are seeking promotion to the Pro League. They next host Dender on Saturday, August 29.
