The Carolina Panthers are trying to broaden the horizons of their offense.
Head coach Dave Canales chatted with reporters from the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday afternoon. And aside from announcing that he'll be handing over play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Brad Idzik, Canales spoke on another change to their staff—the hiring of new associate head coach and offensive specialist Darrell Bevell.
"We're looking at all the things Darrell brought from Miami, and just putting it all on the table," Canales said of Bevell's addition. "We know we have our core. That will stay the same. But what are some of the things operationally, what are some of the wrinkles from a schematic standpoint that we might be able to add to bring value to what we're doing?"
Bevell certainly brings a fair bit of experience to Carolina, having coached in the NFL for 25 seasons. He was an offensive coordinator for 15 of those—with stints in Minnesota, Detroit, Jacksonville and, of course, Seattle, where he crossed paths with Canales.
His most recent stop came in Miami, where he was a quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator from 2022 to 2025. Canales made note of that particular experience.
"And certainly, looking at an offense that I've really respected over the years," he added of the Dolphins. "And a coaching family with Mike McDaniel, Kyle Shanahan and the like that I really respect—and to see, like, how do they get to such good football? Explosive plays, all of those things. We wanna make sure that we're continuing to bring things to our offense."
Carolina ranked 27th in both yards per game and points per game this past season.
