Even at 38 years old, Sidney Crosby came into the 2026 Winter Olympics as one of the focal points of the entire men's hockey tournament.

With NHL players returning to the Olympics, Crosby was one of the biggest names set to be on the ice for Canada, and as the captain of his squad, he was also pursuing the mark for most career points by a Canadian NHL player at the Olympics.

However, in Wednesday's quarterfinals matchup against Czechia, Crosby left the ice with an apparent injury, and he was later ruled out for the game.

Sidney Crosby injury update

Crosby took two big hits against Czechia, one against the glass between two opponents. After taking a hit fromRadko Gudas, Crosby went to the bench in some pain.

He will not be returning to the game against Czechia, per Elliote Friedman, ruled out with a lower body injury.

He then proceeded to go back to the locker room.

Crosby's exit came with Canada trailing 2-1 in the matchup around the 15-minute mark of the second period; elimination in the 2026 Winter Olympics bracket is at stake in the game. 

Per Mollie Walker, it was Macklin Celebrini who replaced Crosby on Canada's power play soon afterward, which then led to a Nathan MacKinnon goal tying the matchup at two.

What happened to Sidney Crosby?

Crosby left Wednesday's quarterfinal matchup between Canada and Czechia with an apparent injury after taking multiple big hits on the ice.

The Team Canada captain was hit between Czechia’s Radko Gudas and Martin Necas, and soon after, he was slow to go back to the bench before heading to the locker room. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

How long is Sidney Crosby out?

Crosby will not be returning to the ice on Wednesday against Czechia, per Elliotte Friedman. His status moving forward is unknown, depending on whether or not Canada can advance in the bracket without him.
