8 practice squad deals have expired for Patriots

The New England Patriots have allowed eight practice squad deals to expire heading into the 2026 NFL offseason, according to KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson.

That means all of those individuals are now free agents with the option to seek out a new NFL home.

One of the more noteworthy names on the list is running back D'Ernest Johnson, who had limited work on offense for the Patriots when the unit was hit with an injury bug. He appeared in seven games for the team and ran the ball 13 times for 25 yards during the season. His biggest contribution to the team was as a kick returner on special teams after veteran Antonio Gibson went down with a torn ACL earlier in the season.

Linebacker Darius Harris also saw limited reps for the Patriots' defense, appearing in three games with four tackles and contributing on special teams.

The Patriots will move forward into Year 2 of their rebuild under head coach Mike Vrabel with the hopes of adding to the top of their roster, while also greatly improving their positional depth. Here are the eight practice squad contracts that were allowed to expire:
