Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe was able to show of his skills in the Rising Stars Challenge at All-Star weekend on Friday as the No. 3 overall pick earned MVP honors in winning the challenge for Team Vince.
Edgecombe totaled 23 points across the two games on Friday and sunk the game-winning free throws to edge Team Melo 25-24 in the final. The young guard did what he has been doing all season and that's being a confident player who steps up when the time calls for it.
As Edgecombe now moves forward with his maiden season, he gave his thoughts on a potential All-Star selection in the near future.
"Definitely," Edgecombe told reporters. "Definitely, man. It would be a true blessing to be an All-Star. I won't take that for granted if I'm an All-Star one day. Hopefully I am. I'll say I'd just be truly blessed, and I'll enjoy it for sure."
Edgecombe is currently averaging 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 50 games thus far. The young guard from Baylor is looking to help the Sixers prepare for the final stretch of the regular season. Philadelphia will play host to the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday to begin the final 28 games of the season heading into the playoffs.
