The NFL Draft is rapidly approaching, and for one former Notre Dame star, it’s looking like he’s going to find his way into the first-round.
We all expect that running back Jeremiyah Love will go on Day 1, but it’s wide receiver Malachi Fields that has been rising up draft boards. Following a very impressive Senior Bowl week, the 6-foot, 4-inch and 223-pounder has seen his stock rise significantly.
On Tuesday morning Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL.com released his mock 2.0, and found both former Irish stars going in the first. Love was predicted to land at No. 9 with the Kansas City Chiefs, as there has been more than a bit of smoke for them to take the talented back. An elite talent at running back would make their offense even better, one that didn’t look the same this past season.
As for Fields, Jeremiah has him going No. 26 to the Buffalo Bills. Their offense wasn’t the same as it had been in previous years, as the focus shifted to the running game over moving the ball through the air. None of their pass catchers topped 800-yards last season, and Fields would give them another threat to break that mark.
While it looked like Notre Dame would only have one first-round pick, the emergence of Fields following the season’s conclusion has it looking like the Irish will be seeing two players getting their named called on Day 1.
