Spartans drop in latest USA TODAY Sports 'bracketology' update

Michigan State has been in a recent slump, and that stretch of poor play has resulted in them dropping in the latest batch of bracketology from USA TODAY Sports.

The Spartans have dropped three of their last four games, including a blowout loss last Friday at Wisconsin. That recent losing skid has dropped Michigan State to a No. 4 seed in the latest bracketology projection from USA TODAY Sports.

Michigan State landed as the No. 4 seed in the East Region in USA TODAY Sports' latest bracket projection released on Tuesday. The Spartans are projected to play against No. 13 seed Stephen F. Austin in a first round matchup from Tampa, Fla.

Michigan State is 20-5 overall and 10-4 in Big Ten play, and hosts a fellow NCAA Tournament quality team in a home matchup against UCLA on Tuesday. A win over the Bruins should help bolster the Spartans' resume and potentially bump them back up to a No. 3 seed.

Selection Sunday is just under a month away, with the Spartans looking like a lock to reach the NCAA Tournament. Now, they need to finish strong to hold onto an upper tier seed.
