Phillies' Alec Bohm Opens Up About Offseason Trade Rumors

Trade rumors and speculation have surrounded Alec Bohm for years now.

Heading into 2025 there was talk about whether the Philadelphia Phillies would move him, and his future with the team was also called into question over the last few months, especially when it looked like the team was a frontrunner to land prized free agent Bo Bichette, who would've fit at third base.

However, Bohm was never moved; he reported to Clearwater for Phillies spring training, and he honestly talked about what it was like to be in those rumors year after year.

“Every offseason it’s like, ‘Where are you going? Where are you getting traded?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t think anywhere, but we’ll see.’ I’ve been getting traded for the last five years, but I’m still in Clearwater,” said Bohm (quote via Todd Zolecki of MLB.com).

“That’s just part of the game. I’m not the only one that happens to. Everybody, everywhere, every team, everyone, there’s always, 'Oh, if we shuffled this around, if we move this guy, if we move that guy' -- there’s always talk like that. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t.”

Moving past all of the trade speculation and what his future holds, and focusing on right now is definitely the right move for Bohm.

In terms of his career, the 29-year-old is entering the final year of his initial contract, making him a free agent next offseason. Bohm still has some to prove if he wants to land a lucrative contract in the prime of his career.

Although the right-hander finished with a respectable OPS of .740 a season ago, consistency remained an issue.

As for the Phillies, they're hoping that this is the year where they finally get over their playoff hump and win the World Series trophy this core has been working towards for

At this point, Philadelphia will need Bohm to have All-Star numbers at the plate to provide the necessary protection for the team's big three of Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Trea Turner.

There will be time for Bohm to focus on his future; for now, he's in line to play a key role for the 2026 Phillies.
