RB Leipzig will be without goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi for around six weeks owing to a knee injury, the Bundesliga club said on Monday.

"Peter Gulacsi suffered a partial tear to the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during the game against VfL Wolfsburg and is expected to be sidelined until the end of March," the club said on X, adding that surgery is not required.

Gulacsi sustained the injury in the first half of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg and was replaced by back-up Maarten Vandevoordt.

"The diagnosis is bitter but we know Pete as a true pro with a great mentality. He will do everything to return soon and stronger," Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer said.

Gulacsi had last week renewed his contract by another year. According to dpa sources he will become second choice next season and support planned new number one Vandevoordt.

Leipzig are fifth in the Bundesliga and next play second ranked Borussia Dortmund.
