Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance was left frustrated despite seeing his side thump Shoreham 7-3 at the weekend.
The Green Lions' emphatic victory means they are eight points behind league-leaders Steyning Town with two games in hand at the top of the Southern Combination Premier Division table.
Guernsey scored in the opening minute of the match and raced into a 4-1 lead at half-time following a red card for Shoreham defender Ben Thomsett, but conceded twice in quick succession after the break.
Despite racking up another three goals late on - the seventh time Guernsey have scored more than five in a league game this season - Vance was disappointed by his side's overall performance.
"Well I'm probably relieved to get the three points. It shouldn't have been like that because we were in a really positive position," he told BBC Radio Guernsey.
"Them going down to 10 men at 2-0 and then our frailties, in terms of the system and the style we play, were exposed.
"We got ourselves comfortable at half-time. The team talk was very much about the fact that we need to really go and push on and have the right attitude and focus and not get dragged into a really easy situation.
"That didn't happen second-half. The focus wasn't there and those frailties were opened up hugely and that's really frustrating from my point of view - really disappointing actually.
"It's a high-risk strategy and even today we were broken down and we were off it because we didn't do what we needed to do higher up the pitch."
He added: "In saying that, the high-risk strategy brings potential high rewards. If you look at the amount of chances we create from it - OK, seven [goals], we could have had double figures for sure. I've got to look at the whole picture and there's bits I'm not happy with.
"Ninety goals I think we've scored (so far this season) but we've also conceded too many. It's the way we want to play and we have to enjoy it after having seven years of defending for our lives."
