The Seattle Seahawks destroyed the San Francisco 49ers in the playoffs in one of the biggest postseason blowouts of the last decade.
They then went on to win Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, the home of the 49ers. The Seahawks went into the 49ers' locker room and popped champagne over one of their greatest rivals.
Now, they are in the process of poaching one of the 49ers' coaches to be their new offensive coordinator.
Brian Fleury is in the process of taking over the OC role from Klint Kubiak, who is the new head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in the AFC West.
Fleury, the current tight ends coach for San Francisco, will be staying in the Pacific Time Zone but moving north to Washington state for his next job in the NFL.
While coordinators and coaches come and go in the NFL, this one hurts for San Francisco, which has been developing Fleury as a future head man within the franchise for over five years.
Fleury started with the Bills before joining the Browns and ultimately joining the 49ers in 2019 as their defensive quality coach. He then switched to the offensive quality coach the year after. Through 2024, he served as the run game coordinator and tight ends coach.
His move up the ladder showed he could soon be the 49ers' offensive coordinator, but instead, he will be coaching against them twice (possibly three) times a season.
It's a dream come true for Fleury, who started his coaching career over two decades ago at Maryland as an intern and assistant.
Now, he is the OC for the reigning Super Bowl champions, and could very well be on his way to being a head coach in the league if he does well with Sam Darnold, along with the rest of the title-defending attack.
