Recently, NFL Network's insider Cameron Wolfe reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars had a new plan for Travis Hunter starting with the 2026 season.
Hunter will be utilized as a full-time cornerback and part-time wide receiver in the future. The Jags still have Jourdan Lewis and Jarrian Jones under contract, but Montaric Brown and Greg Newsome are set to be free agents.
According to Cameron Wolfe, Brown, and/or Newsome may not be back.
"They also have Montaric Brown and Greg Newsome, cornerbacks about to be free agents; they're expected to let at least one of those cornerbacks walk in free agency so Travis Hunter can have that starting spot there."

Letting Brown, Newsome, or both walk shows that the Jaguars have full faith in Travis Hunter's abilities at the position. The organization labeled Hunter a "generational talent" coming out of the University of Colorado. Brown was very good last season and played at a high level. Newsome came in during a midseason trade and had to learn a completely new scheme, which hindered him somewhat, but the decision will be made strictly from a value standpoint.
Hunter was a vital part of the puzzle, helping turn things around from a dismal season in 2024, but a season-ending injury derailed his productive rookie season.
Hunter should be able to return in May to participate in offseason workouts.
